Happy December! Seriously, I know I say this all the time.. but dang did the last month ever fly by!
This month’s yarn is hand-dyed by Elise from Sunday Fibre Co. It’s called ‘Mountain Times’ and you can scroll down to the bottom of this post to see my sock progress and her gorgeous inspiration photo.
I’ll be making a vanilla sock (shocker, I know) with a german short row heel. This is currently my favourite go-to. I’ve been loving the way this heel fits, and super loving not having to work a heel flap. It’s a win-win in my books. If you haven’t tried it, there are some great youtube videos. This tutorial is my favorite.
Here are a few other patterns I think would work well with this colorway.
Little Black Socks by Summer Lee
Midas Hat by Laura Reinbach
Aurora Headband by Megan Nodecker
Kindling Socks by Lindsay Fowler
My current sock progress, comfy pants and all.

Hi, I’m new to your newsletter. Although I’ve been knitting for many years, I’m currently knitting my first pair of socks… shocker I know. I’m really enjoying them but would like to try different patterns as well as techniques. The Is your vanilla sock pattern available to purchase or download as I would like to try the german short row heel. Also really love the little black socks by Summer Lee. What kind of needles do you prefer when making socks.
thanks, liz
Hi Liz!
This is a great vanilla sock pattern (and its free!) https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/my-favorite-vanilla-socks.
I really like working with 9″ circulars when making socks (and then magic loop for the toes), though you could also use double pointed needles or magic loop for the whole thing.
Let me know if there is anything I can help with 🙂
