Keeping Warm and Cozy this Winter- Knitting Projects To Keep The Chill Out

I hope you all are enjoying this wonderful holiday season! It is another stunning winter here in Vancouver Island, it is always so magical in the mornings with the crisp cool air. The mornings are just breathtaking, but I’m certain not everyone is the cold’s number one fan. Well my yarny friends you are in luck because today we are going to talk about a few different projects to help keep that winter chill out all season long.

Mittens

Let’s start with the tried and true winter necessity, mittens! These are a must-have, believe me when I say it is a rookie mistake to leave a good pair of mittens at home on a cold windy day. Mittens are a great over the weekend kind of project as they don’t require a ton of yarn and can be made in a few different styles. So whether you choose the convertible, fingerless, or the classic style this is the perfect winter craft to keep you cozy this December.

Beanie Hats

Another piece to keep you warm and comfy this season are of course beanies. Just like mittens, these are great over the weekend projects that are super easy to customize to fit whichever aesthetic you are going for.

Not to mention it only takes a few minutes to transform a standard beanie into an iconic pomskii hat through the addition of an elastic loop or button. Personally, I love it when beanies or any project really has its own personality through selection in color and style. I simply adore winter pastels like Smash Knits ‘Tea for Two’ which is a charming pastel pink that I’m just obsessed with!

Socks

I’m sure this one isn’t coming as a surprise to anyone. Knitted socks are simply non-negotiable when the temperature starts to drop. While I love a vanilla pattern there’s still plenty of room to take some creative liberty with socks to make something different each time. If you have been keeping up with me on Instagram then you already know I have been using this month’s yarn by Sunday Fibre Co. The color ‘Mountain Times’ is just gorgeous and works up beautifully with a forest fade look.

Wraps

They are wonderful for those windy winter days for keeping your neck and ears nice and toasty. Wraps make great winter crafts as you can really play with the length and style of the finished product. A cowl or shawl pattern can easily be dressed up by incorporating tassels or puffs making them super versatile when designing. An ombre look in neutral tones or some more natural shades like Rocky Mountain Yarn Co.’s ‘Current’ would prove to be an elegant look for the winter season.

Headbands

If you saw my last blog post for December Yarn Club Pattern Idea, then this one will be very familiar. The Aurora Headband pattern by Megan Nodecker is perfect for the cozy season ahead of us! It slips right over the ears acting like a cute set of earmuffs that is a staple item in winter wardrobes. Headbands are another great example of where a multicolored yarn can work out beautifully to create a one-of-a-kind piece that is a must-have for winter.

There you have it! A few project ideas that will keep you warm and snug all through the cold months ahead of us. The snowy season really gives us crafters a moment to shine as knit and crocheted items are essential in staying bundled up until spring starts to peek through. I cannot wait to see what you guys create! I hope these ideas have given you a little inspiration for future yarny creations.
